The Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Thiruvananthapuram has invested 18.5 crore in a brand-new high-energy linear accelerator machine and digital treatment planning system.
The machine is now in its trial phase. Intensity modulated radiotherapy, image-guided radiotherapy, and volumetric modulated arc therapy (a novel radiation therapy technique that delivers the radiation dose continuously as the treatment machine rotates) are just some of the modern radiation therapy treatment modalities that can be delivered with this machine. The gadget makes it possible to administer radiation therapy to a tumour while limiting harm to nearby healthy tissue.
Also, the Tele Cobalt machine is now operational, and the CT Simulator will soon join the hospital’s arsenal of cutting-edge cancer treatment tools.
According to the announcement, the goal was to ensure that patients of government medical schools also received top-notch cancer care.
