On Sunday Morning, MTA rolled its first bus which is an articulated all-electric one and is part of the new fleet and is part of the plan of the agency to move away from the busses which are powered by diesel in the years to come.
There are 15 new busses which are going to serve on the M14 route of the service. These are the first electric busses which are owned by the New York City Transit as they are currently leasing 10 more electric busses for use in the city.
The Capital plan for 2020-2024 by MTA had made an allocation of $1.1 billion for the 500 new electric busses and further eight depots which are needed for them and this is going to have 100 such busses with the first delivery beginning in the year 2020 as per Andy Byford who is the Transit President of NYC. Nearly 100 of these busses are expected to be delivered every year post that.
Byford has said that the electric busses are going to be distributed among all the five boroughs. By the year 2029, MTA has plans of only purchasing the electric busses for their fleet.
Andy Byford also added that they were extremely excited at being here as it was a milestone in their plans. He said this soon after first of the busses left for the 14th Street. This plan known as the Fast Forward plan is the multi-faceted initiative for the modernization of public transportation.
Byford also said that the plan was the right move as it helps the environment and also provides better technology for the residents when it comes to transportation.
