A tweet sent a year ago catches up on Elon Musk.
In July 2018, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla sent a tweet that has brought a defamation suit against him.
Vernon Unsworth from Britain reached out to help a group of young boys who were trapped in a cave. 12 boys along with their soccer coach got trapped in a Thai cave when the cave got flooded suddenly and Unsworth rescued them in 2018.
It was a generous act by Unsworth that made him save the lives of the Thai kids. He had risked his life to save them when he went deep in the sea to rescue them. However, Musk had accused this sacrificial act of his, stating that he was a pedophile.
Unsworth has filed a suit against this statement by Musk calling him a “pedo guy”. He claims compensatory damages for the statement made. Later, in August 2018, Musk had tweeted to BuzzFeed News reporter Ryan Mac stating “don’t support child rapists”. Musk was sued by Unsworth in September 2018.
The jury is to meet on Tuesday. As Musk has around 29.8 million followers, his tweet has brought in a lot of publicity for himself and for his car company.
Musk has always got into trouble over controversial tweets made by him.
In 2018, his tweets have brought a misunderstanding with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a case was filed against him. He was sued because was reported to have falsely misled investors over the tweet “funding secure”. Musk was then ordered to receive pre-approval before sending his tweets. He was also fined $20 billion for his wrongdoing.
Unsworth states that Musk’s wealth will not be able to convert lies into truth. He will be held accountable for his wrongdoing by the court of law.
The jury will now determine whether his comments against Unsworth were wrong or correct.
